Alma's Eyes

"His coat was indigo. Three white feathers tossed in his mane, which was silver, as were his hooves and horn. The evening darkness of his coat was spattered with hoary flecks. They wound upward past one eye before spilling down is neck. Turning at the shoulder, the widening runnel of tiny frosted spots flowed diagonally across his back and meandered down one flank. Pale socks washed three pasterns. The rest of him, almost wholly dark, sported only slight speckling, like stray pricks of light in a summer sky." -Meredith Ann Pierce

Another sketch assignment, but also some personal art The assignment was to illustrate a lyric, quote, poem or literary piece like it was a book jacket, CD cover etc. So, think of this as a really boring book jacket I had written the title, but cropped it out for this.

I chose to illustrate Son of Summer Stars by Meredith Ann Pierce for a few reasons. I recently read it and loved it (my Firebringer knowledge is now complete!) And I've really been wanting to draw Calydor (pictured here) for awhile. He's probably my favorite character from the series, and he certainly is my favorite design After reading his description and seeing other interpretations of him, I just had to do my own.

I did make some subtle changes, I chose to make his eyes silver, just because I thought it would look neat on the cover, and I only drew two feathers in his mane, rather than three. I hope to do another of him because this one was done very quickly and not much detail was put into it. I'm happy with it anyway though, I just love how his colors look together. Please enjoy!
